An ordinary word with extraordinary power. We spend a lot of time seeking permission. From our parents, our friends, our boss, our culture… But they can’t actually give us permission, not really – no one can. In the end, we’re the only ones who can give ourselves permission to be who we’re meant to be. To connect, to share, to engage, to dream, to risk it all. So light the fire of the people around you. Tell your kids they can do it. Tell your friends to go for their dream. Tell your students they’re capable. Give them permission to give themselves permission. As Seinfeld’s story shows us, sometimes it only takes one.
How To Connect With Someone When You Have No Time
Human connection doesn’t have to be lengthy. Every conversation holds the potential to touch a life, to inspire a dream, or to bolster someone’s confidence. Just a few minutes, or even 30 seconds, can bridge the gap between strangers and make someone’s day a little better. And when in doubt, use my favorite go-to question: “What do you love about [topic]?” It virtually guarantees they will begin talking about their values and beliefs. So next time you meet someone, remember it’s not about the length of the interaction, but the depth and quality of the connection you create.
