Decade in Review: Questions to ask yourself as 2020 begins

It’s the end of a decade!

(I mean, sort of. It all depends on your perspective. Technically 2011 was the first year of this decade and we’re entering the final year, 2020, but whatever; I’m going with the social media trend).

There’s never been a more perfect time to reflect on our past failures, successes, worries, concerns, hopes and dreams. As in history at large, we need to understand where we’ve been to get a clear view of where we’re going.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself as we head into 2020. Write out your answers to each in as many or as few words as you need.

You’ll find my own decade in review below in video or audio form if you’d like some inspiration to track your own progress.

Questions about the previous decade

  1. What is one thing you achieved that you did not expect to?
  2. How did you do that?
  3. What is one thing you expected to achieve that you did not?
  4. How did you miss that mark?
  5. Are you in a better place personally than you were 10 years ago?
  6. In what way?
  7. Are you in a better place professionally than you were 10 years ago?
  8. In what way?
  9. Are you the same person you were in 2010?
  10. In what way?
  11. List the most significant professional achievement of each year from 2010-2019 (these may be positive or negative).
  12. If you could give yourself in 2010 one piece of advice for the following decade, knowing what you know now, what would it be?

Questions about the following decade

Imagine yourself ten years from now heading into 2030:

  9. Are you the same person you were in 2020?
  10. In what way?
  11. If you could give yourself in 2020 one piece of advice for the following decade, knowing what you know now, what would it be?

Happy New Year friends.
