How to Talk to Anyone

Simple Tools for Conversations and Connection

Have you ever wished you had reached out, said ‘hi’ to a stranger, or engaged in a group conversation instead of staying silent?

Or walked away from an interaction wishing you’d said something different? Asked better questions? Spoken more clearly, or confidently?

Artistic Image with lines

Today over 61% of young people report feeling lonely or isolated on a regular basis. That’s nearly 2 out of every 3 students on your campus. Despite wanting to connect with others, students often struggle to know what to say, let alone how to say it.

Whether it's making new friends, engaging in group settings, communicating with faculty, or interviewing for an internship or job, these moments often leave students feeling stuck and anxious, unsure of how to navigate social interactions.

Brian Miller Speaking in front of students

But what if learning how to talk to anyone was as simple as mastering a few easy conversational tricks?

In this presentation, human connection specialist Brian Miller teaches simple conversational tricks to help students introduce themselves with confidence, remember people’s names, and ask more interesting questions. This presentation is light, interactive, and fast-paced, drawing on Brian’s background as a professional entertainer to keep students engaged while they learn.

Students will leave with:

  1. Three simple conversation starters that work in any environment
  2. A fun strategy to remember people’s names
  3. One conversational “get-out-of-jail-free card”
  4. The confidence to engage with anyone, anywhere, any time

A Note for Advisors and University Faculty/Staff:

While on the surface, this presentation focuses on simple conversational tricks, the underlying impact is far more profound for your campus community. Students will leave not just with tools for better conversations, but with a deeper understanding of how and why to build meaningful relationships. They’ll learn the value of creating a network of people who trust and support them, how to seek out unlikely mentors, and how to become a beacon of human connection. This is about equipping students with lifelong skills for collaboration, leadership, and personal growth—critical for their success both during and beyond their college years.

Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of an interaction

FAQs

Questions? We have answers.

How interactive is it?

We know this generation loves to be part of an experience.  On your pre-event call Brian will ask you detailed questions about your audience, the room design, and your desired outcome. Then he’ll discuss various interactive options, from call-and-respond to bringing volunteers on stage to full blown breakout discussions.

Is the program inclusive?

It’s a shame anyone has to ask that anymore. Yes, of COURSE! Brian goes out of his way to make sure his audience feels heard, understood, and valued - a living example of the very message he’s there to promote. No one gets made fun of, no one gets offended, and no one is left out - period.

How many people can attend?

Brian has spoken to audiences of thousands in giant theaters, and teams of 5 in boardrooms. So long as you have the tech to support the size of the audience, he can play to any size room.

Can the presentation be hybrid or virtual?

Absolutely. During the height of the pandemic, Brian presented nearly 200 virtual presentations. In doing so, he built a professional-grade broadcast studio that allows him to deliver world-class, high-production talks to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Is this a magic show?

No. While Brian’s background in entertainment makes his presentations extra fun, his programs always put content, education, and action first. On your pre-event call, Brian will ask you what percentage of content to entertainment you’d like him to achieve.

Will Brian do some magic?

Absolutely. He uses magic tricks as visual examples during his presentation, and is happy to provide a bit of lighthearted entertainment during cocktail hour or elsewhere during your event if you ask, and it makes sense. Bring it up during your initial consultation with his team.

Can we purchase books to give away?

So long as we have at least 3 weeks notice, bulk orders of Brian’s book Three New People can be shipped to your event in advance. Brian will provide a complimentary book signing and meet-n-greet whenever bulk orders are made.
